For nearly 20 years Communicate By Design (CBD) has been helping clients design, produce, and distribute their marketing and collateral materials. As a woman-owned small business, we take great pride in the fact that we are still serving some of the organizations that were among our very first clients.
Realizing your marketing vision requires a design team with experience and knowledge; asking the right questions and helping you make the best decisions. Experienced painters understand every facet of their craft—from the proper medium to the density of their paint. A design company is no different.
Before painting a room, you examine swatches, mask your trim, and determine how much paint you’ll need. All of these decisions are made based on your furniture, style, and preferences. We apply that same principle to design. Most people manage their projects from beginning to end. But that’s backward.
Try looking at it this way instead. Reverse engineering a design project enables us to find ways to increase quality and efficiency. For example some brochure sizes fit standard paper, while others do not, causing increased printing, bindery, and postage costs. Poorly planned design projects are the same as buying 4 gallons of paint for a bathroom because each wall is a different color.
So before we start a project we invest some concentrated time checking and rechecking every stage—making sure you are getting the best bang for your buck. Many questions are asked and answered. Ensuring the implementation (whether it be choosing the best web system or selecting the correct paper and size) complements the end result. And we do it all in-house, behind the scenes.
By examining the end product while designing, it naturally boosts efficiency, making it easier to simultaneously launch printed and web marketing ventures. With this level of efficiency, the reverse engineering approach works!
We have a great system—designers working directly with clients while our production manager is behind the scenes keeping track of deadlines and quality control before projects go to press or launch—a really efficient system of checks and balances. The fact that we generally do not work on a contract basis and our clients keep coming back is a tribute to our integrity, talent, and client-focused business practices.
Because of long-term experience in marketing and graphic design, we have developed a deep network of creative support. Your project may need a little bit more, some extra refinement. Then we turn to our creative connections of writers, photographers, illustrators, and translators. We will assemble the right creative resource to round out the team for your project’s needs.
CBD believes that the work we do is for our clients and that you own the digital files for a project. There will never be a dispute about intellectual property rights—you own the creative and all reproduction rights. If you ever need the files, rest assured they will be forwarded to you without a fuss about ownership.
